While at PPMC he carried out a motion and time study of the operations at the depot and consequently introduced some innovations in the loading operations at the depot.
Engr Sani is undoubtedly a man of novel ideas and creative systems that focus on solving human socio-economic problems. The few examples below attest to that:
1. IDEA OF BUYING FUEL WITH COUPONS.
In order to solve what he saw as one of the major constraints in the acquisition and proper accounting of fuel by fleet operators and private motorists in Nigeria,
Engr Sani carried out a feasibility study into the idea of using vouchers instead of cash to purchase fuel at petrol stations nationwide .
He consequently resigned his appointment with NNPC in 1983 and established for the very first time in this country a company known as Fuel Vouchers Nig. Ltd. The outfit was marketing petroleum products to motorists nationwide through the use of vouchers. The novel idea was very successful until 1991 when fuel supply by NNPC to the petroleum stations in the country became erratic and unmanageable.
2. REMOVAL OF SUBSIDY ON PETROLEUM THROUGH TWO-TIER SYSTEM.
The ingenuity of Engr Sani came to fore in 1986 when the then Federal Government of Nigeria was frantically looking for a way out of the imbroglio of removing subsidy on petroleum products without causing social uprising by the labour and the masses of Nigeria in the already very tense political situation in the country.
Engr. Sani proposed to the Federal Government the idea of two- tier system of selling petrol to motorists in Nigeria such that the productive sector (commercial vehicles) would pay an economic price.
The idea was accepted by the Federal Government and introduced with the 1986 budget. Through this idea subsidy was removed without any protest from the labour and Nigerians who were growing very hostile to the government at the time.
