THE standard bearer of the Action Democratic Party (ADP) in the forthcoming September 22 governorship poll in Osun, Chief Moshood Adeoti, on Thursday said with the rising profile of his party and mass movement of people into their fold, it has grown to become a nightmare for the ruling All Progressives Congress APC in the state.
He also maintained that contrary to rumours emanating from some quarters, he never participated in the July 20 governorship primary of the APC.
These were contained in a press statement signed by the director of media and publicity of Moshood Adeoti campaign organisation, Mr Kayode Agbaje, which was forwarded to the TribuneOnline in Osogbo.
According to the statement, “contrary to a rumour emanating from some quarters in Osun State that the current governorship candidate of the ADP), Alhaji Moshood Olalekan Adeoti actually participated in the APC primary election, the Moshood Adeoti Campaign Organization (MACO) wishes to state that the rumor only exists in the imagination of its masterminds”.
“We also want to put it on record that Alhaji Adeoti’s action of backing out of the APC governorship primaries was publicly made over 24 hours to the said primaries. The acclaimed APC governorship primaries was a process that actually fell short of any democratic standard. In addition to this, Adeoti withdrew from primaries in order not to give undeserved credibility to a jaundiced process”.
“Having critically observed which of the available political parties in the state upholds the basic democratic standards, the ADP was chosen among the lot and today, it has grown to become the nightmare of the ruling APC”, the statement concluded.
Reacting over the development, the director of publicity, research and strategy of the APC in the state, Barrister Kunle Oyatomi said “in Nigeria’s history, political party develop on ideology. We have known Adeoti to be a progressive politician. We know him well as the co-party founder of the progressive party in Osun State”.
“The reason for his leaving that foundation which he built together with other people is well known to him. Every effort to let him rethink and return failed. We have said before that we wish him well. But, by September 22 we would separate the father from the son and boys from men”.
“ADP can never be a nightmare for the APC. It is well known that a son should outgrow his father, but there is no way for a party that was built yesterday to suddenly become a nightmare for the APC. Again, we say that September 22 will determine which party is a phantom and which party is really the pillar in the political structure of this state”, Oyatomi asserted.
