Former
governor of Abia State, Dr. Orji Uzor Kalu said he joined the All
Progressives Congress (APC) because President Muhammadu Buhari has
started fulfilling the promises he made to him in the area of
development of the South East.
The
business magnate said in his country home in Igbere, Abia State when
hundreds of Igbo youths from across the zone paid him a visit, that when
President Buhari assured him that work would start on federal roads in
the East before the end of November, he had pledged to join APC if lived
up to his words.
He
said with the ongoing rehabilitation work on federal roads in the South
East, it became imperative for him (Kalu) to redeem his own pledge,
hence, he joined the APC few weeks ago.
Kalu
assured the youths that what he did was in the interest of Igbo, as the
South easterners need to be at the centre where national issues are
discussed and dividends of democracy shared.
“We
cannot continue to isolate ourselves while turning around to complain
of not being remembered or carried along,” Kalu told the youths.
He
emphasised that people make political parties what they are, insisting
that if Igbo joined the APC en masse, they could equally take hold of
the party.
Kalu
said the interest of the Igbo comes first before his personal ambition,
saying he would continue to contribute his quota towards building the
APC in the South East.
Meanwhile,
Kalu’s movement to the ruling party is generating interest in the South
East, as several political, religious and socio-political groups are
trying to align with the former governor. Also, old politicians and
professionals have started meeting with Kalu, with a view to joining the
APC.
It was gathered that Kalu may have convinced one of the biggest legal icons in the country, Chris Uche (SAN), to join APC.
Sources
revealed that the legal luminary visited Kalu in Igbere, where the duo
discussed the possibility of the lawyer joining the APC.
It was gathered that barring any change of plan, Uche might join the APC next month.Former governor of Abia State, Dr. Orji Uzor Kalu said he joined the All Progressives Congress (APC) because President Muhammadu Buhari has started fulfilling the promises he made to him in the area of development of the South East.
