Currency Scam: Another Wema Bank Former Staff Opts For Plea Bargain

Weeks after a former employee of Wema Bank, Ademola Oni, was convicted and handed a custodial sentence after opting for plea bargain, another Wema Bank former staff, Afolabi Esther Olunike accused in the Central bank Currency fraud has indicated readiness to enter into a plea negotiation with the prosecution.



Kolawole Babalola, Olaniran Muniru, Toogun kayode Philips, Afolabi Esther Olunike, and Ademola Ebenezer are facing trial before Justice Joyce Abdulmalik at the Federal High Court, Ibadan, Oyo State for their roles in the currency scam.
 
Disclosing this in a statement, Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC’s spokesman, Wilson Uwujaren disclosed that at the resumed trial on Thursday, Olunike, through her counsel, informed the court of her decision to pursue a plea bargain option.

Having confirmed the claim from the prosecution counsel, Rotimi Jacobs SAN, Justice Abdulmalik adjourned the matter to December 6, for consideration and 11th and 12th January, 2017 for the continuation of trial.
